
RU Women 7th after Opening Round of Roar-EE Invitational

SUFFERN, N.Y. – The Rutgers women’s golf team is in seventh place with a 324 total after the opening round of the sixth annual Roar-EE Invitational, played Friday at Spook Rock Golf Course. Freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) and junior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one of the 14-team event, carding 77’s to enter Saturday’s final round tied for 11th in the 75-player field.
Junior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.), competing in first position, and seniors Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) comprise the rest of the team scorecard. Weddell is tied for 32nd with an 82, Mateer is tied for 46th with an 88 and Carl is tied for 56th with a 90.
Defending champion Harvard leads with a 306, three strokes ahead of second place and host team Columbia. St. John’s Harin Lee and Fairleigh Dickinson’s Mariana Juaristi are atop the leaderboard after carding one-over 73’s on Friday.
The field also includes Albany, Boston University, Dartmouth, Hofstra, Lehigh, LIU, Seton Hall, Quinnipiac and Wagner.
The second and final round on the par 72, 6,008-yard course tees-off at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
