
Rutgers 9th after Day One of Yale Intercollegiate

New Haven, Conn. – The Rutgers women’s golf team is in ninth place with a 316 score after the opening round the 17-team Yale Intercollegiate, played Friday at The Course at Yale. Sophomore Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a 74 to enter Saturday’s second round tied for seventh in the 87-player field.
Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) complemented Maxoutopoulis by shooting a 78 on the par 72, 5,901-yard course. She enters day two tied for 31st.
Senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and freshmen Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) and Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) comprise the rest of the team scorecard. Cash is tied for 51st with an 81, while Chambers and Moyal are tied for 62nd with 83’s.
Nova Southeastern posted a 292 on Friday to take the tournament lead, six strokes better than Harvard and Penn State. Individually, Linnea Johansson of Nova was the only participant under par through 18 holes, with a one-under 71.
