PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 6, 2012) - The Rutgers women's basketball program unveiled its 2012-13 regular season schedule. The 29-game slate features matchups against nine teams that qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament and includes 15 contests hosted at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
Rutgers women's basketball 2012-13 season tickets are now available for renewal by visiting the ticket office page at ScarletKnights.com or by calling the Fan Relationship Center at 1-866-445-GORU (4678). Fans have the opportunity to take advantage of a 50/50 payment plan. The renewal deadline for season tickets is Friday, Sept. 28. Fans have the option of providing 50 percent of their balance by that date, with a final balance due by Friday, Oct. 26.
Rutgers will open the season with 13 non-conference games, featuring teams from nine different conferences. The BIG EAST Conference schedule is comprised of 16 games as the Scarlet Knights will play each of the 14 conference members in addition to a home and away series against both Cincinnati and St. John's.
RU starts the 2012-13 season on the road, traveling to Athens, Ga. to take on the Georgia Bulldogs (Nov. 11), before returning home to host George Washington (Nov. 14) in the home opener at the RAC. The Scarlet Knights will hit the road again for a matchup with Atlantic 10 opponent Temple (Nov. 21), followed by a home meeting with Davidson (Nov. 25).
The Scarlet Knights play back-to-back road games, closing out the month of November at in-state rival Princeton (Nov. 29), followed by ACC opponent Boston College (Dec. 2). The road streak is snapped with a home game against Long Island (Dec. 6), however, Rutgers will play away from the confines of the RAC in its next contest as RU makes its return to the Maggie Dixon Classic following a one-year absence. The Scarlet Knights played in the first four years of the tournament and this year will matchup against Louisiana Tech (Dec. 9).
Rutgers will play three-straight at the RAC prior to one of its toughest road test of the season. The Scarlet Knights will host Southern University (Dec. 12), Miami (Dec. 16) and Stony Brook (Dec. 21). The final out of conference road game of the season will be a highly anticipated meeting in Knoxville, Tenn. against the Lady Vols (Dec.30). RU closes out its non-league schedule with a home game against La Salle (Jan. 3).
The Scarlet Knights open the BIG EAST schedule with a home meeting against St. John's (Jan. 6), their first of two matchups against the Red Storm. Rutgers will play back-to-back road games at Louisville (Jan. 8) and Notre Dame (Jan. 13), followed by a pair of home contests against Providence (Jan. 16) and Georgetown (Jan. 22).
RU will then head on the road for matchups at Seton Hall (Jan. 27) and Marquette (Jan. 30) before returning home for contests against Villanova (Feb. 2) and Cincinnati (Feb. 9). Rutgers heads west again, this time for a midweek meeting at DePaul (Feb. 12).
The Scarlet Knights will be put to the test when reigning BIG EAST Champion Connecticut comes to the RAC on Feb. 16. Rutgers will play two-straight road games, taking on Syracuse (Feb. 19), followed by its second meeting of the season against St. John's (Feb. 23). RU will then host USF (Feb. 26) and wrap up its home and away series at Cincinnati (March 2) before closing out the conference slate at home against Pittsburgh (March 4).
Rutgers will play seven televised games, highlighted by four appearances on CBS Sports Network and two matchups on ESPNU. All non-televised home games will be broadcast on RVision, presented by AT&T via www.scarletknights.com.
Under the direction of Hall of Fame head coach C. Vivian Stringer, Rutgers returns eight letterwinners and welcomes a five-member recruiting class ranked third in the nation. In her 18th season at the helm and 42nd season overall, Stringer is on a quest to become the second most winning coach. She is 15 victories from 900 all-time, joining only two other coaches in the women's game to achieve the feat. The Scarlet Knights have a remarkable record at the RAC, going 120-20 over the previous 10 seasons.
