Rutgers Wrestling Wins Season-Opener at Hofstra

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2013) - The Rutgers wrestling team narrowly won its season-opening dual match against Hofstra Sunday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex. The Pride tied the match at 21-21 after Jamel Hudson won the final bout of the afternoon by a 16-5 major decision over redshirt freshman Sean McCabe (Connetquot, N.Y.).
But the Scarlet Knights earned the tie-breaking point courtesy of Criteria 3, as RU edged the Pride in pins, 2-1. The full results from the match are listed below, as four Scarlet Knights made their collegiate debuts against the Pride.
RU turned the match around after redshirt freshman Phillip Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.) scored a 3-0 decision over Victor Pozsonyi. From there, the Scarlet Knights earned back-to-back pins at 197 pounds and 285 pounds from sophomore Hayden Hrymack (Lincroft, N.J.) and Billy Smith (Wantage, N .J.), respectively.

165 Joseph Booth (Hofstra) won by decision over junior Nicholas Visicaro (Long Branch, N.J.) (Rutgers) 11-7.
174 Redshirt freshman Phillip Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.) (Rutgers) won by decision over Victor Pozsonyi (Hofstra) 3-0.
184 Redshirt senior Dan Seidenberg (Red Bank, N.J.) (Rutgers) won by decision over Dwight Howes (Hofstra) 3-1.
197 Sophomore Hayden Hrymack (Lincroft, N.J.) (Rutgers) won by pin over David Heitman (Hofstra) 0:43.
