RU Wrestling To Compete in Binghamton Open

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 7, 2013) - After a thrilling, 22-21 victory over Hofstra in the team's first dual match of the season, the Rutgers wrestling team (1-0, 1-0 EIWA) will send 21 grapplers to compete in the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Binghamton Open on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Binghamton, N.Y.
More than 30 teams will compete Sunday at Binghamton's Events Center, including a mix of EIWA opponents and future Big Ten foes. Seven squads will send their full rosters to the tournament, including No. 1 Penn State, No. 6 Cornell, No. 25 Maryland, Harvard, Princeton, Binghamton and the Scarlet Knights.
Approximately 400 wrestlers will occupy the gym, with 12 mats being utilized throughout the day of competition. Updated brackets for all weights will be posted throughout the day at www.bubearcats.com.
RU will be well represented across all 10 weight classes, with 125, 133 and 165 pounds boasting the most wrestlers with three apiece.
Five Scarlet Knights earned victories in their first matches of the season in RU's victory over Hofstra, as redshirt sophomore 157-pounder Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.), redshirt freshman 174-pounder Phil Bakuckas (Hammonton, N.J.) and redshirt senior 184-pounder Dan Seidenberg (Red Bank, N.J.) each earned decisions. Sophomore 197-pounder Hayden Hrymack (Lincroft, N.J.) and 285-pounder Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) earned back-to-back pins that propelled RU to victory.
Freshman Tyson Dippery (Harrisburg, Pa.) is the Scarlet Knights' wins leader through one weekend of competition after posting a 4-2 clip at the Clarion Open on Sunday, Nov. 3.
