"It was a good job by Princeton, setting the match up. New Jersey wrestling is a big deal, so great job by them setting it up," said head coach Scott Goodale. "It will be a great atmosphere. Jadwin Gym is a historic place when it comes to wrestling in New Jersey so I look forward to getting back there.
RU recently competed in the 32nd Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., from Dec. 6-7. Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) was the Scarlet Knights' lone placewinner, taking seventh with a 5-2 overall mark. Redshirt senior Vinnie Dellefave (Toms River, N.J.) won his first two bouts to advance to the quarterfinals at 133 pounds before falling in his subsequent bouts, ending his tournament.
In facing the Tigers Saturday, the Scarlet Knights will compete in their first dual match in two weeks. RU's last dual came against Maryland (Dec. 1) to close out the Second Annual "Grapple at the Garden." Rutgers dropped the tight dual, 19-18.
The Scarlet Knights enter the match with ranked grapplers at two weights. Dellefave is ranked No. 20 at 133 pounds by W.I.N., while Smith enters the week ranked No. 20/19/19 (AWN/InterMat/W.I.N.) among heavyweights. With a win, RU would begin the season 3-0 in EIWA action for the fourth consecutive season.
RU got off to at least a 5-2 start in each of the past four seasons. Goodale led the squad to 6-1 starts in 2012-13, 2011-12 and 2010-11.
