
Betnijah Laney Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 4, 2013) - Rutgers women's basketball sophomore guard/forward Betnijah Laney (Clayton, Del.) was named to the BIG EAST honor roll on Monday, it was announced by the league office.
Laney helped the Rutgers women's basketball team to a 2-0 mark last week with wins at Marquette (72-54) and against Villanova (58-50) in overtime by averaging 13.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in the two contests.
In the win at Marquette, Laney poured in 15 points and shot 5-of-6 from the free throw line. In the overtime win vs. Villanova, Laney scored eight of her 12 points in overtime helping RU overcome an eight-point second half deficit to pull out the win over the Wildcats. Laney scored the first six points in overtime as Rutgers outscored Villanova, 12-4, in the extra stanza and held the Wildcats without a field goal.
On the season, Laney is averaging 9.4 points and 4.3 rebounds, while in BIG EAST action she is averaging 12.8 points and 4.6 boards per contest.
