BEALLSVILLE, MD - The Rutgers Women's Golf Team is in eighth place with a 646 (326-320) team score after day one of the 14-team Hoya Invitational, played Monday at the Member's Club at Four Streams. Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) paced RU with a 157 (80-77) to enter Tuesday tied for 19th in the 80-competitor field.
Weddell has 22 pars and is even in par five scoring. She is joined in the top 30 by freshmen Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.). Moyal, who is minus two in par five scoring and has five birdies, is tied for 27th with a 160 (82-78). Chambers is tied for 29th with a 161 (80-81.
Senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and freshman Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) round-out the team scorecard. Both are tied for 53rd with 170 totals. Zurick is a tournament-best minus two in par three scoring on the par 72, 6,125-yard course.
Campbell is in first place with a 604 (299-305), seven strokes better than second place Yale. Penn and Seton Hall are tied for third with 615 team scores.
The third round of the tournament, which is being hosted by Georgetown, tees-off Tuesday morning.
