
Rutgers Places Eighth at Hoya Invitational

BEALLSVILLE, MD – The Rutgers Women’s Golf Team placed eighth with a 958 (326-320-312) team score at the 14-team Hoya Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at the Member’s Club at Four Streams. Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) paced RU with a 232 (80-77-75) to finish tied for 15th in the 80-competitor field.
Weddell had 33 pars and was even in par five scoring. She was joined in the top 30 by freshmen Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.). Moyal, who was minus three in par five scoring and had seven birdies, tied for 24th with a 236 (82-78-76). Chambers tied for 29th with a 238 (80-81-77).
Freshman Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) and senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) rounded-out the team scorecard. Zurick tied for 58th with a 254 (84-86-84) and Cash tied for 60th with a 255 (86-84-85).
Campbell captured first with a 894 (299-305-290), 13 strokes better than second place Yale (907). Seton Hall placed third with 918 effort.
St. John’s Harin Lee earned individual medalist honors with a one-under par 215 (73-73-69).
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Maura Ballard, returns to the links April 14-15 at the Brown Bear Invitational in Providence, R.I.
