PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 30, 2013) - TopDrawerSoccer.com selected redshirt senior Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, Canada) to its 2013 Preseason Best XI Second Team, the website announced Tuesday. Filigno is the leading returning scorer for the Rutgers women's soccer team, scoring 15 goals and tallying five assists (35 points) during the 2012 season.
Following her record-setting success last year, TopDrawerSoccer named Filigno to its 2012 Third Team. The forward for the Canadian National Team was also named the Big Apple Soccer Player of the Year, as well as being named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team and NSCAA All-America Second Team.
Filigno tied the school's single-season mark of 15 goals during her junior campaign, a record previously held by former RU standout and U.S. Women's National Team star, Carli Lloyd. Her 35 points were good for third on the single-season list, while she broke the school record with seven game-winning goals. For her career, the forward is third in game-winning scores (12), fifth in goals (25) and sixth in points (60).
Filigno was one of three players from the American Athletic Conference selected to one of TopDrawerSoccer.com's four preseason teams. Marissa Diggs of UCF and Charlyn Corral of Louisville were the only other two players to earn the honor, as both made the Preseason Best XI Third Team.
