Aug 15 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers University Women's Golf Program, under the leadership of head coach Maura Ballard, will host the inaugural Unger-DeBlasio Cup at the Rutgers University Golf Course on Friday, Oct. 25. Former letterwinners, alumni and friends of the program are welcome to participate in the highly-anticipated event, which will celebrate 35 years of women's golf "On the Banks."
"We are so excited to be honoring long-time coach and founder of the women's golf program, Jan Unger," said Ballard. "We would not have the success we enjoy today if it had not been for Jan working tirelessly for 20 years, building our solid foundation. Jan and her assistant coach, 35-year Head Pro Art DeBlasio, taught, led and mentored our team members with character and integrity. They were both terrific role models for me and for many student-athletes over the four decades they were involved with our golf programs. It will be a wonderful day of celebration and tribute to two bright stars in the history of women's golf at Rutgers."
Multiple playing, reception and sponsorship opportunities are available. After registration and warm-up, the event tees-off with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. A lunch reception, as well as an awards and recognition ceremony will take place after all rounds are completed. Proceeds from the Cup will benefit the Rutgers University Women's Golf Program.
Over 6,300 yards in length, the picturesque, tree-lined, PGA sanctioned Rutgers University Golf Course is a par 71 and offers a challenging layout with four teeing areas per hole. Highlights include narrow fairways, fast greens, and water hazards on nine holes. Founded in 1963, the course is located on the Busch Campus. The mission of the course is to ensure that every player enjoys a timely round of golf played on superior fairways and true greens with uncompromising service and instruction.
