RU Women Lead after Day One of Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - RU Women's Golf is in first place with a 300 total after the opening round of the 17-team Rutgers Invitational, played Friday in cool conditions at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Two Scarlet Knights are among the top three competitors, as the home squad enters Saturday's final 18 holes with a six stroke advantage over second place St. Francis (Pa.).
Junior Gabrielle Sacheli paced Rutgers on day one, carding a one-over par 72 to enter the final round in second place in the 90-player field. She was minus one in par three scoring with three birdies and 11 pars on the afternoon.
Sophomore Taylor Clark complemented Sacheli well and is third after posting a 73. She had three birdies, 10 pars and was even in par three scoring.
Junior Racquel Zurick and freshmen Tatum Jackson and Emily Mills comprised the rest of RU scorecard. Zurick is tied for 14th with a 77, Jackson is tied for 17th with a 78 and Mills is tied for 46th with an 82. Zurick was even in par three scoring and had two birdies on Friday, while Jackson was plus one in par four scoring.
Sophomore Maddy Gedeon and juniors Christina Paulsen and Jackie Mullens are competing as individuals, with Gedeon and Paulsen entering the final round among the top 20. Both are tied for 17th after shooting 78. Gedeon is even in par five scoring, while Paulsen has 11 pars. Mullens is tied for 73rd with an 86.
Long Island's Christina Felip is atop the leaderboard with an even par 71. She was minus one in par four scoring with four birdies.
The final round of the tournament tees-off beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Final results will be posted on ScarletKnights.com and Golfstat.com at the conclusion of the event.
