Rowing Begins Fall Slate at Navy Day Regatta
Oct 10 | Women's Rowing
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's rowing team opens its fall schedule on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia. The Scarlet Knights will race in the Women's Collegiate JV8+ and the Women's Open/Collegiate 8+ in their first event since May.
"The team has started the fall season with a strong sense of purpose," said head coach Max Borghard. "Practices on the water have been quite competitive, which is raising everyone's performance levels. The workouts we have been doing are more challenging this year and the team has been up to the task. "Watching practice this week, you can see the team is chomping at the bit to race. I think what has been most fun this fall is seeing how many of the younger rowers have stepped up their performance, along with the returning varsity members, to bring about a healthy competitive environment to the boathouse."
RU's JV8 will compete on the Schuylkill River against Drexel, La Salle, Navy, Penn State, St. Joseph's, Temple, Delaware and UPenn. Drexel, Navy, St. Joseph's and Delaware will all race with an A and B boat in the event.
Following that race, the Rutgers Varsity 8 will row against Drexel, La Salle, Lehigh, Navy, Penn State, Philadelphia University, St. Joseph's, St. Mary's, Temple, the U.S. Military Academy, Delaware and UPenn. Penn will compete with an A, B and C boat, while Temple will put an A and B boat on the river for the race.
The Scarlet Knights' fall season will continue on Oct. 19 in Boston, Mass., at the Head of the Charles Regatta. RU closes the fall on Nov. 8 on the Raritan River at the Rutgers Classic.
