Rowing Competes at Navy Day Regatta

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's rowing team kicked off the fall season Saturday at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia, registering solid performances in the team's first race since the spring.
"I thought the Varsity 8 and the Second Varsity 8 did a good job racing in Philadelphia," said head coach Max Borghard. "We kept our strokes per minute down, as we have been training on rowing with more power before bringing the rating up. It has been great watching the team getting a tick faster each day as we head up to Boston next week."
FULL RESULTS
The Scarlet Knights' Varsity 8 rowed in the Women's Collegiate Open/Collegiate 8+ Final, finishing eighth out of 16 boats with a time of 15:01.60 - just behind seventh-place West Point (15:01.05). Among the schools edged by Rutgers were Temple (ninth, 15:01.92), Penn State (11th, 15:16.90), Lehigh (13th, 15:23.79) and La Salle (14th, 15:26.46).
RU's JV8 finished eighth among 14 boats racing in the JV 8+ Final with in a time of 16:03.99, ahead of Temple (ninth, 16:04.83), La Salle (10th, 16:36.56), and Penn State (11th, 16:56. 20).
The Scarlet Knights' fall season will continue on Oct. 19 in Boston, Mass., at the Head of the Charles Regatta. RU closes the fall on Nov. 8 on the Raritan River at the Rutgers Classic.
