RU Women Set to Host Rutgers Invitational
Oct 08 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The RU women's golf team will host the annual Rutgers Invitational this Friday and Saturday, October 10-11, at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Seventeen colleges are competing in the 36-hole event.
This year, the Scarlet Knights welcome Albany, Central Connecticut State, Dartmouth, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hofstra, Lehigh, Long Island, Monmouth, Penn, Quinnipiac, Saint John's, Sacred Heart, St. Francis-Brooklyn, St. Francis (Pa.) and Wagner.
The Rutgers University Golf Course was founded in 1894, when four men and four women organized the New Brunswick Golf Club. One of the earliest clubs in the United States, it was among the first members of the United States Golf Association. In 1933, the Depression led to the bankruptcy of the club, which was purchased in 1935 by Rutgers for $15,000. A new era was launched in 1961 with the construction of an 18-hole course. Expertly designed by Hal Purdy, a noted golf architect, the course was officially opened May 29,1963.
Over 6,300 yards in length, the picturesque, tree-lined, PGA sanctioned course is a par 71 and offers a challenging layout with four teeing areas per hole. Highlights include narrow fairways, fast greens, and water hazards on nine holes. A course layout can be viewed here.
Tee times on Friday range from 8:30-10:50 a.m. Results will be posted on the athletics web site and golfstat.com at the conclusion of each day.
