PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Hitting the 100 point mark for the first time since 1995, the Rutgers women's basketball team blasted passed Davidson, 100-44, on Sunday afternoon at the RAC. The Scarlet Knights improve to 6-0 on the year and extend their current win streak to 12 games dating back to last season.
Rutgers led wire-to-wire opening the game with nine unanswered points. Davidson got onto the scoreboard with back-to-back three-pointers by Hannah Early, but by then RU had established an 18-6 lead with 14:19 to go. RU's momentum continued for the next seven minutes as six different Scarlet Knights would team up to outscore the Wildcats 22-4. The run was capped by a put back from Kahleah Copper (Philadelphia, Pa.) to give RU a 40-10 edge with 6:04 to go in the first.
At the half, the Scarlet Knights enjoyed a 55-17 advantage.
RU's dominance continued into the second half as the Scarlet Knights led by as many as 58 late in the contest.
With 1:29 to go in the game, Cynthia Hernandez (Ventura, Calif.) nailed a shot from beyond the arc to give the Scarlet Knights its 99th point of the night, but it was not over there. Hernandez, who was fouled on the shot, earned a trip to the charity stripe, sinking the free throw for the RU's 100th point of the afternoon.
Five Scarlet Knights finished the game in double-figures. Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.) poured in a game-high 23 points going 8-of-10 from the field, including two from downtown, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Betnijah Laney (Clayton, Del.) captured her sixth straight double-double with 19 points and 12 boards. Copper added 13, while Syessence Davis (Neptune, N.J.) came off the bench for 11 points, eight assists and eight steals.
Davidson's Early led the Wildcats with 13 points, while Mackenzie Latt added 10 in the loss.
The Scarlet Knights close out its current three game homestand hosting #11/12 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 4. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
