ROSEMONT, ILL. (Dec. 2, 2014) - Junior libero Ali Schroeter (Bakersfield, Calif.) of the Rutgers women's volleyball team has earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, the league announced Tuesday.
"We are very excited for Ali to be recognized for this honor," said head coach CJ Werneke. "She exemplifies all that the award means as she consistently displays the highest level of sportsmanship both on and off the court."
The athletes chosen for the Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior, in addition to demonstrating good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Schroeter finished the season ranked fifth in the Big Ten with 4.11 digs per set. The Scarlet Knight recorded a team-high 468 digs in the RU's inaugural season in the conference.
After breaking the all-time single season digs record last year with 544 digs, Schroeter continues to rewrite the Rutgers record books. The junior captain's 468 digs this season is good enough for the second-place spot on the list. Schroeter also ends the year ranking second on the all-time career list with 1,245 total digs. The California native is 99 digs away from cracking the first-place spot, which was set in 2013 at 1,344 digs
