Scarlet Knights Volunteer at Big Chill 5K
Dec 06 | Women's Track & Field
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Members of the Rutgers women's cross country and track & field teams volunteered at the Big Chill 5K on College Ave., helping organizers collect toys for children in need.
The Big Chill is a unique charitable event as participants are asked to bring a new toy for a child between the ages of 3 and 14 instead of the normal registration fee.
Last year almost 8,200 people between the ages of 13 and 78 walked or ran through the streets of New Brunswick and collected over 10,000 toys to be given to children who live in housing provided by the City of New Brunswick and Franklin Township and a number of other charities where children are in need. The Big Chill has become the second largest race in New Jersey and is considered by many to be one of the best conducted races in the tri-state area.
