
Tyler Scaife Named American Freshman of the Year

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (March 7, 2014) - Rutgers women's basketball rookie guard Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.) was named the American Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Year, it was announced by the conference on Friday.
Scaife is first in scoring (13.7 points) and field goal percentage (46 percent) among the league's freshmen. She received American Freshman of the Week honors five times this season and leads the Scarlet Knights in free-throw percentage (74 percent) while ranking second in scoring and assists (3.0 assists per game). In conference games, the point guard scored 15.1 points per game and hit the 20-point plateau on five occasions.
Earlier this week, she garnered all-conference second team honors and was a unanimous pick for the all-freshman team.
The Rutgers women's basketball teams begin American Athletic Conference Tournament action on Saturday when No. 4 Rutgers meets No. 5 SMU at noon at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air on ESPN3.
