
Scarlet Knights Place 7th at American Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. – Rutgers women’s golf placed seventh with a 991 (336-328-327) total at the American Athletic Conference Championship, played Sunday through Tuesday at Hammock Beach Resort. The Scarlet Knights improved with every round in their final tournament of the 2013-14 season.
Sophomore Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights in every round in the highly-competitive event. She carded an especially strong 76 on Monday and a 79 on Tuesday to place 22nd in the 38-player field with a 238 (83-76-79).
Freshmen Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.) and Taylor Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.) both tied for 32nd with 250 efforts. Gedeon carded an 81 on the final 18, while Clark posted an 82. The rounds marked the best of the Championship for both.
Sophomore Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) tied for 34th with 253 (84-84-85). Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) withdrew from the final round after carding an 87 on both Sunday and Monday.
Louisville shot a 299 on Tuesday to overtake UCF, ranked No. 17 in the most recent Golfweek collegiate rankings, for the team title. The No. 35-ranked The Cardinals carded a 915 (314-302-299) to defeat the Knights (307-305-304=916) by a single stroke.
SMU’s Jenny Haglund captured individual medalist honors with a two-over par 218 (76-71-71) on the par 72 course. She bested Emily Haas of Louisville by three strokes for the crown.
Rutgers, under the direction of 22nd-year head coach Maura Ballard, returns to the links in the fall as members of the Big Ten Conference.
