Rowing Sweeps Final Home Competition Against Holy Cross

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 29, 2014) - The Rutgers rowing team swept the competition in its final race this season on the Raritan River on Sunday April 27, defeating Holy Cross in the First, Second and Third Varsity 8 races and taking first and second place in the Varsity 4 event.

The race was the last competition on the Raritan River for seniors Katie Bakaj (Longport, N.J.), Ashley Cha (Fort Lee, N.J.), Amanda Dothe (Linwood, N.J.), Stephanie Ford (Nutley, N.J.), Avigayil Lieber (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Realyn Louiselle (Tampa, Fla.), Gabrielle Oliviera (Long Island City, N.Y.), Andrea Samuelewski (Colonia, N.J.), Jenelle Scheffler (Basking Ridge,N.J.), and Emilia Topp (Vienna, Va.). Following the race, the group of seniors christened the pair/doubles boats the "Busch," the "Livingston," the "Cook/Douglass" and the "College Avenue" outside the Class of 1914 Boathouse.

The wins for the 1V8 and 2V8, which clocked times of 6:50.2 and 7:05.5, respectively, were both firsts this season. The V4A boat picked up its third win of the spring with a time of 7:41.5, while the V4B earned its highest finish in three races with a second place run.

Rutgers makes the short trip to Cherry Hill, N.J., next weekend on Sunday, May 4, to take part in the Eastern Sprints, the squad's final tune-up before the American Athletic Conference Championships, set for Sunday, May 18 in West Windsor, N.J.
