Rutgers Football APR Score Ranks 10th Nationally

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 14, 2014) - Rutgers football continued its established trend as one of the nation’s top programs in the classroom and on the playing field as the Scarlet Knights placed 10th nationally in the Academic Progress Rate according to the latest multi-year APR figures released by the NCAA today.
“It is a credit to the hard work by our student-athletes in the classroom and the excellent guidance and direction from Jenna Beverly and our academic support staff to achieve our 6th Top-10 APR score in the last 7 years,” said Rutgers head football coach Kyle Flood.
The Rutgers football program was the lone state university to be ranked in the top 10 percent nationally in APR for the seventh consecutive year. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport.
In addition, Rutgers was the only institution to win four bowl games while earning the APR honor in the top 10 percent over the previous seven-year span.
Rutgers’ multi-year score was 980.
The Scarlet Knights continue to be one of the leaders nationally in both production on the field and in the classroom. In the fall of 2013, 43 members of the team earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and 24 players achieved Dean’s List status with a GPA of 3.5 or above.
Three student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA while the team finished with a 2.96 GPA, a record high for the program. Rutgers is one of only 13 Football Bowl Subdivision programs to be ranked in the top 10 percent in the APR scores.
The Scarlet Knights competed in their eighth bowl over the previous nine seasons last year at a sold-out Yankee Stadium in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Flood, who guided Rutgers to its first BIG EAST Championship in 2012, is the first coach in school history to lead the Scarlet Knights to two bowl games in his first two seasons as head coach.
