PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 30, 2014) - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced the 2014 Division I All-Region award winners, revealing a Central Second Team All-Region spot for Rutgers rowing's Veronica DeSalvo (Plymouth, Minn.). The sophomore served as the bow on the First Varsity 8 this season for the Scarlet Knights, who wrapped up the season fifth at the American Athletic Conference Championships on May 18 in West Windsor, New Jersey.
Four other RU rowers - sophomores Bailey Irelan (Delaware, Ohio), Caitlin Lavery (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Christina McGinnis (Ringwood, N.J.) and senior Jennelle Scheffler (Basking Ridge, N.J.) - were also honored by the CRCA as 2014 Scholar Athletes.
"All five are hard-working student-athletes and it's great for them to be recognized for their hard work," said head coach Max Borghard.
Rowers nominated for all-region status are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.

• The student-athlete was in her second, third, or fourth year of eligibility
• The student-athlete rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
