
Cappie Pondexter Named To Her Sixth WNBA All-Star Team

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 8, 2014) -- Former Rutgers standout and New York Liberty star Cappie Pondexter was named one of five starters for the Eastern Conference for the upcoming Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game, it was announced by the league on Tuesday night. Pondexter will be appearing in her sixth WNBA All-Star Game and her third straight as a starter.
The 2014 Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game will take place at US Airways Center in Phoenix on Saturday, July 19, and will be nationally televised on ESPN, with tip-off at 3:30 p.m.
Joining Pondexter on the Eastern Conference squad are 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky, 2011 regular season MVP and 2012 WNBA Finals MVP Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever, along with Shoni Schimmel and Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream.
One of the league's most decorated stars, Pondexter is currently in her ninth season in the WNBA and her fifth with the New York Liberty. Over the course of her career she has been named one of the top-15 players in WNBA history, is a two-time WNBA champion (Phoenix Mercury '07 & '09) and a three-time All-WNBA First Team selection. Pondexter became the 12th player overall and second fastest ever to reach 5,000 career points in the league and entering the 2014 season, she ranked fourth in WNBA history in scoring average (19.2).
This season, Pondexter is second on the Liberty roster in scoring with 15.2 points per game. She also shares the team lead in assists with 3.9 per game. Additionally, she ranks second in scoring, fourth in assists and seventh in rebounding in the conference at her position. She has scored in double figures 13 times during the 2014 campaign, including seven games with 20-plus points.
The 12 WNBA head coaches will select the reserves by voting for six players within their own conference, including two guards, three frontcourt players, and a player from either position. Coaches are not permitted to vote for players on their own team. The league will announce the reserves during ESPN2's national telecast of the Sparks and Fever on Tuesday, July 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
