Women's Soccer Welcomes Back Alumni

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 4, 2014) - The Rutgers women's soccer team welcomed back its alumni to Yurcak Field on Friday, Aug. 29, when the squad faced Seton Hall. In the program's first "Alumni Night" in recent years, the squad defeated its in-state rival, 1-0, in front of a solid representation of past women's soccer student-athletes.
"It was great to see all the former players back at Yurcak Field," said associate head coach Meg Ryan, who was a member of the Rutgers women's soccer team from 2004-07. "It brought back many memories for me as a player and I am so thankful for the relationships that I have built with the alumni and the players that I played with.
"My favorite part of the day was seeing them on the field and interacting with the current players at the end of the game. Our current team is always asking about our alum and wanting to do more with them. I was very happy with the turn out and I am hoping that more will come back to show their support and pride for the soccer program here at Rutgers."
At halftime, the program brought the alumni group to midfield to honor those that returned to their former home pitch. The alumni that attended also received an alumni prize package that included a number of promotional Rutgers items.

"We have a tradition of winning at Rutgers, and this was created and built by the players that have gone through this program," Ryan added. "I enjoyed my time here at Rutgers as a player and that was due to the players that came before me. These ladies were my best friends and teammates, and I am so happy to see my old family interacting and meeting the current women's soccer family.
"I hope we can build on what took place with the former players coming back and start to use the alumni to help make our program stronger moving forward. The players that came before us set the stage for today's program and we should never lose sight of what they went through to get this program to where it is today."
Rutgers (3-0-0, 0-0-0) continues its season Friday, Sept. 5 with a match at Princeton to close out its nonconference slate.
