PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Highlighted by two home meets at the Rutgers Athletic Center, Rutgers gymnastics released its 2016 schedule Thursday. The slate includes four home meets overall and six on the road before Big Ten Championships.
"I am pretty excited about the schedule," head coach Louis Levine said. "We open up with a meet in Boston against New Hampshire before getting right into Big Ten competition versus Illinois at home. There is no easy weekend throughout the season. The conference has a lot of tough teams plus we will see some former EAGL rivals later on. Everyone in the program is looking forward to getting started."
After having a lively environment at the RAC for Senior Day last year, the Scarlet Knights will host both Illinois (Jan. 16) and Ohio State and Yale (Feb. 6) at the venue this season. Rutgers will hold its other two home meets at the Livingston Recreation Center, a facility that has been sold out five consecutive times.
"We have had great support the past few years," Levine said. "The team really feeds off the energy and it makes for a great atmosphere. We look forward to returning to the RAC twice before having our last two home meets at the Livingston Recreation Center. I know we are excited the home schedule."
Rutgers will also hit the road for three Big Ten meets, traveling to Nebraska (Jan. 23), Michigan State (Jan. 30) and Maryland (Feb. 14). The Scarlet Knights will head to University Park, Pa., for the Big 5 meet (March 12), facing Penn State, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota. The 10 teams in the league will then convene in Lincoln, Neb., on March 19 for the annual Big Ten Championships.
