
RU Places Sixth at Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Scarlet Knights placed sixth with a 949 (325-306-318) total at the annual Rutgers Invitational, played in chilly and windy conditions on Friday and Saturday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Sophomore co-captain Emily Mills (Colts Neck, N.J.) utilized five birdies and 30 pars to pace RU in its final event of the fall season, carding a 235 (82-74-79) to finish 15th in the 58-player field.
It marked the final Invitational for five Rutgers seniors - Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.), Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.), Jacquelyn Mullens (Brookside, N.J.), Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) and Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.). Sacheli competed for the Scarlet squad and placed among the top 20, tying for 16th with a 236 (84-72-80). Zurick and Mullens both played strongly in difficult conditions to pace the White, finishing tied for 7th with a 231 (78-79-74) and 11th with a 232 (81-75-76), respectively.
"We had a good second round from both teams and a couple good closing rounds from Racquel and Jackie," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "It was bittersweet to have our seniors play in their last RU Invite. I am proud of our play this fall and I look forward to the spring season."
Sacheli had 31 pars and four birdies, while Mullens was even in par five scoring and had seven birdies. Zurick produced five birdies and 29 pars.
Freshman Astrid Aneman (Stockholm Sweden), Paulsen and sophomore Tatum Jackson (Mountain Brook, Ala.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Aneman tied for 16th with a 236 (76-77-83), Paulsen tied for 37th with a 245 (83-83-79) and Jackson tied for 45th with a 250 (85-85-80).
Moyal and junior Maddy Gedeon(Roseville, Calif.) rounded-out the scorecard for the White squad, which finished eighth with a 960 (325-313-322) total. Moyal tied for 33rd with a 244 (82-78-84) and Gedeon tied for 50th with a 253 (84-81-88).
Delaware won the 10-team event by 10 strokes with a 923 (302-304-317). Blue Hen Andrea Slane captured individual medalist honors with a 222 (75-74-73). Brown placed second with a 933, as Christine Kim finished runner-up with a 224 (78-72-74).
Rutgers returns to the links in the spring at the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island (S.C.) Classic, February 27-March 1.
