Piscataway, N.J. - In its last event of the fall semester, the Rutgers swimming and diving team secured dual victories over UConn, 244-109, and Boston University, 242-111, Saturday at the RU Aquatics Center. The Scarlet Knights produced 15 event titles during the two sessions.
"I'm proud of the team and our performances here at home," said head coach Petra Martin. "We were attacking things today the way we need to and translated our practice efforts into our racing. We have more work ahead, but I'm happy with where we are at this point in the season."
Individually, four Scarlet Knights registered two individual titles. Sophomore Karli Rymer shined in the pool, collecting first-place finishes in the 100 free (51.32) and the 100 fly (55.60). Both performances were season-best times for the program.
Junior Chantal Asselin hit the wall first in the 500 free (4:57.49) and the 1000 free (10.10.93), the later time a season best for the program. Her finish in the 500 free was more than two seconds faster than the next competitor.
Freshman Cynthia Wu swam fast in the 200 free, securing a first-place time of 1:50.88. Wu also finished first in the 400 individual medley with a mark of 4:25.71.
Sophomore Larissa Neilan was steady for RU with first-place finishes in the 100 breast (1:04.40) and 200 breast (2:16.64).
Off the boards, sophomore Addison Walkowiak placed first in both the 1-meter (293.20) and 3-meter (339.85) diving events, both NCAA Zone qualifying marks. Junior Alyssa Black finished second with a score of 326.20 of the 3-meter board, also a NCAA Zone qualifying standard.
Rutgers swept all four relay events, as the Scarlet Knights finished first in the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay.
RU returns to the pool after the new year, when the Scarlet Knights travel to Miami, Fla., to compete against the Hurricanes, Kansas and Iowa on Jan. 9.
