BOSTON, Mass. - The Rutgers women's indoor track and field team picked up six ECAC qualifying times, led by senior Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) setting a new school record in the 200m, at the Valentine's Invitational hosted by Boston University. It was the final tune-up for the Scarlet Knights before heading to the Big Ten Championships.
"The team posted some personal bests, ECAC qualifying times, seasonal best performances and a new school record," said head coach James Robinson. "It was was a very good showing against excellent competition. It was our last competition leading into our first Big Ten Conference Championship."
Farquharson placed first out of 230 competitors in the 200m as she reset the school benchmark and captured the top finish in the Big Ten to date with a time of 23.62. It was the second time this season Farquharson has set a new Rutgers record in the 200m. Back at the Penn State Invitational in mid-January, she had reset the mark in 23.95 in her runner-up performance.
Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) also picked up an ECAC qualifying time in the 200m clocking in a time of 24.67.
The Scarlet Knights also had a pair of ECAC qualifiers in the 1000m. Felicia O'Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) placed 13th in a time of 2:55.19 and with Celine Mazzi (Monroeville, N.J.) not far behind in 18th in 2:55.94.
