BLUFFTON, S.C. - Rutgers men's golf placed 11th with a 924 (311-308-305) total at the 14-team Colleton River Collegiate, played Monday and Tuesday at the Colleton River Plantation Club. Freshman Toks Pedro paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a seven-over 226 (78-73-75) to finish tied for 30th in 89-player field.
RU saved its best round of the competitive event for Tuesday on the Dye Course, after playing the initial two rounds Monday on the Nicklaus course. The 305 showing on day two enabled the Scarlet Knights two improve two positions in the final standings.
Sophomore Michael Howe and senior Jacob Stockl also had solid outings. Howe (77-78-78) and Stockl (75-83-75) both tied for 49th with 233 totals.
Freshman Matt Holuta and sophomore Ryan Rose comprised the rest of the young Rutgers scorecard. Holuta tied for 63rd with a 237 (81-79-77) and Rose tied for 86th with a 250 (86-78-86).
Sophomore Chase Wheatley and freshman Jack Panagos competed as individuals. Wheatley carded a 239 (79-82-78) and tied for 69th. Panagos shot 250 (82-82-86) and tied for 86th with Rose.
Tennessee won the Collegiate with an 872 (286-289-297), eight strokes better than Miami-Ohio. Host Michigan State placed third with an 883.
Boston College's Jack Jackopsic (73-68-73) and Michigan State's Sam Weatherhead (71-72-71) shared individual medalist honors with 214 totals.
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Rob Shutte, returns to the links March 28-29 at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational in Gransonville, Md.
