PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Rutgers women's outdoor track and field season continues with the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton at Weaver Stadium this weekend.
RECAPPING LAST MEET:
The Scarlet Knights were in action at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary two weeks ago. Rutgers finished in eighth place highlighted by second place performances by Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) in 200m and the 4x200m relay team. Additionally, Drew Andrews (Florence, N.J.) in the 100m hurdles and the 4x100m relay team each captured ECAC qualifying marks.
The 4x100m relay team posted an ECAC qualifying mark in its third place performance. The team of Kaprice James(Roselle, N.J.), Saunders, Imani Beauliere (Union, N.J.) and Oksana Sokolova (Old Bridge, N.J.) collected a time of 47.23.
Also scoring for the Scarlet Knights on the track were Celine Mazzi (Monroeville, N.J.) in the 800m, as well as four relay squads.
Mazzi clocked in a time of 2:20.08 for a sixth place finish in the 800m university division.
The 4x200m and 4x400m relay relays teams both ran to season bests. The 4x200m relay team of Beauliere, James, Sokolova and Christina Dibernardo (Woodbury, N.Y.) claimed second place combining for a finish time of 1:41.08, while Sarah Robbie (Marlton, N.J.), Saunders, Dibernardo and Andrews helped Rutgers to a ninth place finish in 3:54.51 in the 4x400m relay.
Both the sprint medley and distance medley relay squads placed fourth. The sprint medley team of Saunders, James, Andrews and Robbie crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 4:05.04, while the distance team of Felicia O'Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.), Dibernardo, Kaitlyn Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.) and Brianna Deming (Webster, N.Y.) logged a time of 12:11.89.
In the field events, Rutgers received scoring from Sokolova in the high jump, Adrienne Williams (Hamilton, N.J.) in the long jump and Stacey Anning (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) and Kelsey McDonald (East Brunswick, N.J.) in the javelin. Sokolova cleared the bar at 1.65m (5' 5") in the high jump's championship university division to take eighth. Williams, in the long jump, went the distance of 5.43m (17' 9 ¾") for fourth place. In the javelin, Anning took sixth in the championship university division at 39.89m (130' 10"), while McDonald threw for 39.31m (129' 0") in the university division for second place.
Following this weekend's meet, the Rutgers women's track and field team is back in action at the prestigious Penn Relays beginning on Thursday, April 23.
