STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Rutgers men's golf placed third with a 886 (295-290-301) total at the 12-team Rutherford Intercollegiate, played Saturday and Sunday on the Penn State Blue Course. Sophomore Michael Howe paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a three-over 216 (70-71-75), to finish tied for fifth in the 75-player field.
Senior Jacob Stockl and freshmen Toks Pedro also performed well on the par 71, 7,202-yard course to place among the top 25 competitors. Stockl had the team's top round on Sunday and finished 20th with a 223 (74-76-73). Pedro, after pacing the club at last weekend's Princeton Invitational, concluded the event tied for 21st with a 224 (75-72-77).
Freshmen Matt Holuta and junior Louis Bodine comprised the rest of the team scorecard at the annual event, which was won by Minnesota last year. Holuta tied for 40th with a 230 (76-71-83), while Bodine tied for 46th with a 231 (75-77-79).
Host PSU won the 39th annual Intercollegiate by an eight-stroke margin after posting a 296-276-296 (868). Four Nittany Lions finished in the top ten of the 75-player field. Eastern Michigan placed second with an 876.
Binghamton's Jack Sedgewick (72-69-71) and Georgetown's Sam Madsen (69-69-74) shared individual medalist honors with one-under 212 efforts.
The rest of the field included George Washington, St. Joseph's, Canisius, St. Bonaventure, Bowling Green, Youngstown State and Cleveland State.
