Penn Relay IC4A Championship Division Champions - From left to right: D'Andre Jordan, Jordan Jimerson, Coach Lou Tomlinson,
Stuart Tweedie & Jermaine Griffith
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Rutgers' 4x400m relay team captured the IC4A Championship Division title, Thomas Carr (Voorhees, N.J.) landed in third in the javelin's Championship Division and three Scarlet Knights were among the top ten in the javelin in the College Division to highlight RU's results at this year's Penn Relays.
The 4x400m relay team, featuring D'Andre Jordan (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Jordan Jimerson (Edison, N.J.), Stuart Tweedie (Severna Park, Md.) and Jermaine Griffith (Hamilton, N.J.), took off nearly six seconds from Friday's preliminary time to take first in the IC4A Championship Division. The Rutgers team posted a season-best time of 3:11.34.
In the Championship Division of the javelin, Carr threw for 71.27m (241' 9") for third place, while teammate Josh Suttmeier (Pattenburg, N.J.) was the runner-up of the College Division at 70.68m (231' 10"). Suttmeier's distance was a season best, improving from last weekend's throw of 67.27m (220' 6") in his second place performance at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Additionally, Suttmeier's Penn Relay result puts his name eight in the East Region and 19th nationally.
Also in the javelin's College Division, RU's Christopher Mirabelli (Lumberton, N.J.) took third with a throw of 69.34m (227' 0"), while Matthew Krezmer (Montoursville, Pa.) placed seventh at a distance of 64.63m (212' 0").
Coming off a school record setting outing in the hammer at last weekend's Larry Ellis Invitational, Joseph Velez (Providence, R.I.) came in sixth in the event reaching 62.51m (205' 1").
In the 5000m, Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.) set a new PR running in the College Division. The junior Scarlet Knight ran to a time of 14:34.95, bettering his previous best of 14:42.68 set at the Big Ten Indoor Championships earlier this year.
In the Championship Division of the 5000m, Christopher Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) took 28th with his time of 15:04.96.
Up next, the Rutgers men's outdoor track and field team will field squads at the Princeton Open on May 1 and Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville on May 2.
