UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- Rutgers men's golf placed 10th with a 917 (301-295-321) total at the 18-team Redhawk Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Chambers Bay Golf Club. Senior Jacob Stockl paced the Scarlet Knights with a 223 (72-73-78) on the United States Open Championship course to finish tied for 15th in the 92-player field.
Stockl was minus four in par three scoring to lead the tournament in that category. He also registered seven birdies.
Freshman Toks Pedro had a strong opening day and concluded the event tied for 53rd with a 234 (76-72-86). He had an eagle on Monday.
Freshman Matt Holuta and sophomores Ryan Rose and Michael Howe comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Holuta tied for 63rd with a 236 (78-83-75), Howe tied for 70th with a 238 (83-73-82) and Rose placed 79th with a 241 (75-77-89). Holuta has RU's top round on Tuesday and finished the tournament minus one in par five scoring.
No. 17-ranked Washington captured victory with an 854 (279-280-295). Four Huskies placed among the top five, including Frank Garber, who captured individual medalist honors with a 212 (70-66-76).
Host Seattle University finished second with an 878 (288-295-295), five strokes ahead of third place TCU.
The tournament took place just two months before the U.S. Open, when the best professional players in the world descend upon Chambers Bay in their attempt to win a major championship. The United States Golf Association (USGA) strives to make the U.S. Open a tough test, so the course played close to those championship conditions.
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Rob Shutte, returns to the links at The Princeton Invitational, April 11-12.
