PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Freshman Oksana Sokolova (Old Bridge, N.J.) was recognized as one of the Big Ten's women's outdoor track and field Sportsmanship Award recipients, it was announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
Sokolova tied her personal best and registered her best height of the outdoor season at the championships last weekend in the high jump. She cleared the bar at 1.68m (5' 6"). In her first outdoor season with the Scarlet Knights, Sokolova helped the 4x100 team to a third place finish at the Larry Ellis Invitational in mid-April, as well as a third place finish at the Colonial Relays. Additionally, she was a member of the 4x200m relay team at the Colonial Relays that finished second.
The Big Ten Conference office recognizes student-athletes from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
