Sep 11 | General
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The second annual Varsity R Pre-game Celebration will be held the morning of Rutgers' Sept. 26 Homecoming game against Kansas at High Point Solutions Stadium and is free to all Scarlet Knights Letterwinners, it was announced.
Varsity R will also host a Hall of Fame dinner the night prior to the Rutgers-Kansas game.
As part of its mission to assist the school's 12,000 letterwinners in reconnecting with Rutgers Athletics and their sport-specific programs, Varsity R's second Pre-game Celebration will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 (kickoff for the game is noon) at the Rutgers Visitors Center.
"I encourage all letterwinners to attend our second annual Varsity R event before the Rutgers-Kansas game," said Rich Knupp, Associate Athletic Director for Development. "Last year's inaugural Varsity R tailgate was a huge success with more than 400 attendees and we expect an even great turnout this year."
Cost for guests of letterwinners is $15 for adults and $10 for children, with the price including a buffet meal and a commemorative gift for Varsity R Letterwinners. A cash bar will be available and letterwinners will be able to purchase discounted game tickets.

"As a Rutgers letterwinner myself, I know firsthand how important this engagement platform will be for our letterwinners and their respective sports," said Carissa Conroy, Assistant Director of Development, Varsity R. "I've already received a tremendous amount of positive feedback from my former teammates as well as other letterwinners about how eager they are to represent their sports as volunteer leaders."
Conroy (LC '09, GSE '11), a former Rutgers softball scholarship student-athlete and two-time winner of the Regina E. Seggern Softball Loyalty Award, assumed her newly-created role overseeing Varsity R in the summer. She previously worked in the Rutgers Athletics Compliance Office as the Compliance Coordinator for six years.
"Recently, I had the opportunity to discuss the Varsity R Association with about 50 current student-athletes who are members of SAAC," said Conroy. "Needless to say, they are thrilled about the prospect of engaging with former letterwinners and eventually being Varsity R members upon graduation. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to building an alumni support system that continues to bleed Scarlet for years to come."
