IOWA CITY, Iowa - Rutgers women's golf is in fourth place with a 606 total (308-298) total after the first two rounds of the Third Annual Diane Thomason Invitational, played Saturday at Finkbine Golf Course. Sophomore co-captain Emily Mills (Colts Neck, N.J.) continues to lead the way for the Scarlet Knights with her confident play, carding a 148 (74-74) to enter Sunday's final round fifth in the 70-player field.
RU has three players among the top 20 in the competitive event, being played on the Big Ten course with a par of 72 and 6,142 yards in length. Fellow co-captain Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) is tied for 13th with a 152 (77-75), while sophomore Tatum Jackson (Mountain Brook, Ala.) is tied for 18th with a 153 (81-72) after shooting a career-best 72 in the second round.
The strong efforts contributed to a program low score of 298 over the second 18 holes.
Senior Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshman Astrid Aneman (Stockholm, Sweden) comprise the rest of the scorecard. Paulsen is tied for 26th with a 154 (77-77), while Aneman is tied for 61st with a 163 (80-83).
Host Iowa is atop the 12-team field with a 598 (298-300). Delaware is a close second (599; +23), while Harvard sits in third (600; +24). Hawkeye Jessica Ip paced the field with a five-under 139, making five birdies in both her first and second rounds. She is six shots in front of her closest competitor.
