
Gause Named Semifinalist for Campbell Trophy

IRVING, Texas (Sept. 24, 2015) - Senior Quentin Gause (Rochester, N.Y.) of the Rutgers football team has been named a semifinalist for the 2015 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame announced Thursday. The award, presented by Fidelity Investments and displayed at the New York Athletic Club, recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
A journalism and media studies major and digital communication, information and media minor, Gause has worked to a 3.28 GPA and been named to the conference all-academic team the past two seasons. He is on pace to earn his degree in January.
On the field, Gause was voted a captain by his teammates this season. The linebacker has played in all 42 games since earning a spot on the field to start the 2012 season, collecting 144 tackles with 17.5 for loss. He finished second on the team with 72 stops last year is tied for second with 17 so far in 2015.
Gause has also made a difference in the community and was a nominee for the 2015 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team. He has made visits to local hospitals, worked with the Boys & Girls Club of New York, volunteered with the Special Olympics of New Jersey and Embrace Kids Foundation. In 2014, Gause was the recipient of the Rutgers Leadership Award, presented to a student-athlete who has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities as students, athletes and citizens during the academic year. In addition, he previously participated in a missionary trip to Haiti to help rebuild parts of the country following a devastating earthquake.
With 135 players selected as semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy from all levels of college football, the NFF will next announce 15 finalists on Oct. 29, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 58th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 8. The winner of the 26th William V. Campbell Trophy will have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators. Click here to view the full release.
Rutgers resumes play Saturday at noon versus Kansas at High Point Solutions Stadium. The game will be televised by Big Ten Network.
