COLUMBIA, Mo. - Rutgers women's golf is 12th with a 601 (298-303) total after the first two rounds of the annual Johnie Imes Invitational, played Monday at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Senior Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a three-over 147 (72-75) to enter Tuesday's final round 34th in the 96-player field.
Competing in her first event of the fall season, Sacheli responded with an opening round 72 at the highly-competitive, 18-team event to provide RU its best round over the initial 36 holes.
Sophomores Emily Mills (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Tatum Jackson (Mountain Brook, Ala.) also performed well on the par 72, 6204-yards course and are among the top 50 competitors. Mills is 41st with a 149 (75-74) and Jackson is 49th with a 150 (75-75).
Seniors Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) comprise the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Paulsen is 72nd with a 155 (76-79) and Zurick is 82nd with a 159 (80-79).
Host Missouri leads the event with an impressive, 27-under 549 (280-269), 19 strokes better than second place Middle Tennessee State. Mizzou's Jess Meek is atop the individual leaderboard with a 10-under 137 (67-67).
Ten players finished day one under par.
The field also includes Akron, Arkansas State, Bradley, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Illinois State, Iowa, Kansas State, Mercer, Missouri State, University of Arkansas- Little Rock, University of Missouri- Kansas City, USF and Wichita State.
