NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Rutgers tennis wrapped up play at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Yale, from Oct. 20 to Oct. 24 in New Haven, Connecticut. Juniors Chloe Lee and Mingxiu Du along with freshman Jacqueline Cochrane all represented the Scarlet Knights in the Main Singles Draw to highlight weekend action.
"Overall we had a great showing at regionals," said first-year head coach Hilary Ritchie. "The ladies played extremely well in singles action in both the qualifying and main draws. We ran into some tough opponents on Saturday, but we will continue to work hard in order to get to where we want to be as a program."
Cochrane, Du and Lee all recorded first-round victories on Friday. Cochrane powered her way to a 6-3, 7-6 (3) decision over Seton Hall's Anna Fajnorova. Du produced a 7-5, 6-4 win against UConn's Emma Alderman, while Lee won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, versus Sacred Heart's Olivia Podsiebierski.
The second round was not as kind for the Scarlet Knights. Cochrane fell, 6-4, 6-2 to Saint Joseph's Anna Morozova, Du lost to Cornell's Alex D'Ascenzo, 6-2, 6-4, and Lee suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Yale's Madison Battaglia.
