FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Rutgers women's cross country team competed at the 2016 Big Ten Championships on Sunday on the challenging Les Bolstad Course. Alexandra Juzwiak was the Scarlet Knights' top runner finishing the 6K course in 23:37.9.
Michigan won the 2016 Big Ten title with 63 points, followed by Penn State in second with 70 points and Michigan State in third with 80 points. The Scarlet Knights finished 14th.
Juzwiak knocked nearly three seconds off her time from her last appearance at the Les Bolstand Course, improving upon her time of 26:20 at the Griak Invitational in late September.
Following Juzwiak across the finish line was Allyson Black (23:46.5) and four Scarlet Knights freshmen in Emma Bergman (24:08.3), Nadia Saponara (24:13.2), Stephanie Mauer (24:17.0) and Lou Mialhe (24:33.2). Also scoring for Rutgers was Kaitlyn Bedard (25:07.4).
"Alex had a good race in leading us today," said head coach James Robinson. "The four freshmen had tremendous improvements in time versus when they ran the on the course a month ago. We'll look to get healthy for the NCAA Regionals in two weeks."
Up next for the Rutgers women's cross country team will be the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in State College, Pennsylvania on Friday, Nov. 11.
