PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Women's golf heads overseas this weekend to compete against Richmond and University College Cork on Sunday and Monday at the Waterville Golf Links. A match play event, the Scarlet Knights will be playing eight matches in threesomes.
Match play scoring consists of individual holes won, halved or lost, rather than overall strokes. On each hole, the most that can be gained is one point. Competitors play as normal, counting the strokes taken on a given hole. The winner is the competitor with the highest point total at the conclusion of the round.
Under the leadership of head coach Kari Williams, the Scarlet Knights are coming off an eighth place finish with a 596 (307-289-293) total at the 15-team Johnie Imes Invitational last weekend. Redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Greenham paced RU for a second consecutive event, carding a 217 (77-69-71) to finish tied for 12th in the 81-player field.
Located in County Kerry, Ireland, Waterville originally opened in 1889. Surrounded by the sea, the classic links is consistently rated among the top 20 courses in the world. Golf at Waterville combines sand dunes and native grasses, firm fairways, sod faced bunkers and beautiful putting surfaces dovetailed with ever changing weather.
