COUNTY KERRY, Ireland - Women's golf combined for 11 points to lead Richmond (nine) and College Cork (two) after day one of match play at the Waterville Golf Links in County Kerry, Ireland. Twenty-two points remain to be earned during Monday's final 18 holes.

"We had fantastic conditions today and everyone played well," said head coach Kari Williams. "It's a great experience for our team to compete on a true links course, as the design can be very challenging. Ashleigh (Greenham), Ana (Cortes), and Carrie-Ann (Lee) played some great golf today, each winning both of their matches. We are looking forward to a very competitive final round tomorrow with Richmond and Cork."

Redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Greenham earned a 3&2 on Richmond and a 4&3 victory over Cork. Freshman Carrie-Ann Lee was 3&2 on Richmond and 1-up on Cork. Fellow rookie Ana Maria Cortes earned 6 & 5 on Richmond and 5&4 over Cork.

Also competing for the Scarlet Knights are senior Maddy Gedeon, juniors Emily Mills and Tatum Jackson, sophomore Astrid Aneman and freshman Megan Hou.

Lee: 3&2 on Richmond, 1 up on Cork

Cortes: 6 & 5 on Richmond, 5&4 on Cork

Mills: 3&2 win over Richmond, 1 down loss to Cork

Jackson: 4&3 loss to Richmond, 3&2 win over Cork

Aneman: 4&3 loss to Richmond, 2&1 win over Cork

Gedeon: 3&2 loss to Richmond, 5&4 win over Cork

Hou: 6&5 win over Richmond, auto win/point over Cork

Match play scoring consists of individual holes won, halved or lost, rather than overall strokes. On each hole, the most that can be gained is one point. Competitors play as normal, counting the strokes taken on a given hole. The winner is the competitor with the highest point total at the conclusion of the round.
