COLLEGE PARK, Pa. -- The Rutgers women's cross country team closed out the 2016 season Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at the Blue-White Golf Course.
Alexandra Juzwiak, Rutgers' top finisher at the Big Ten Championship two weeks ago, was once against the Scarlet Knights top runner across the finish line in a time of 22:50. Juzwiak was only .04 seconds off her season 6K best.
Freshman Nadia Saponara collected a time of 22:59 in her first regional appearance. Meanwhile, senior Kaitlyn Bedard closed out her four-year Scarlet Knight career logging a time of 23:02.
Three other first-year Scarlet Knights added to RU's point total. Lou Mialhe captured a time of 23:07, Emma Bergman finished in 23:27 and Stephanie Mauer posted a time of 24:03.
"We gained a lot of experience this year as very young team," said head Coach James Robinson. "As a whole, the ladies improved tremendously as the season progressed. We competed today without our top runner (Allyson Black), who was All-Region last year until injury proved to be too much to overcome. However, I think the team will continue to develop under Coach Marina Muncan's tutelage."
