Princeton Pushes Past Women's Basketball

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Rutgers women's basketball team followed the Thanksgiving holiday with a 64-34 loss at Princeton on Friday afternoon to close out a four-game road trip.

Rutgers (0-5) was led by Desiree Keeling and Khadaizha Sanders with seven points each. Keeling also hauled in a game-high nine rebounds. Victoria Harris came off the bench for a career-high tying six points and new career-high eight boards.

Princeton's Bella Alarie led all scorers with 14 points while Tia Weledji came off the Tiger bench for 12 points.

After opening the contest trading baskets from 3-point range, Princeton (1-4) proceeded to score eight unanswered points before Keeling put a stop to the Scarlet Knight drought with jumper at the free throw line. After being held scoreless for a seven-minute span, however, Princeton went ahead 11-5 with two minutes remaining in the quarter.

Rutgers opened the second quarter with Shrita Parker drilling a long three and trailed 14-8, but another scoring drought would allow the Tigers to lead by 18. After 12 unanswered points by Princeton, a Harris put back saw RU down, 26-10 with 3:32 left in the half.

The Scarlet Knights outscored the Tigers, 7-5, over the final three minutes of the quarter and trailed 31-17 at the intermission.

The Tigers opened up the third frame on a 10-0 run and outscored RU 16-5 in the third quarter taking a 47-22 advantage into the fourth and final quarter. Princeton would go on to takes it largest lead of the afternoon, 61-30, with 1:38 left in the game.

The Rutgers women's basketball team returns home to begin a four-game homestand beginning on Sunday with Bryant at 2 p.m. at the RAC. During the homestand, RU will also host Duke on Thursday, Dec. 1 in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge and retire Scarlet Knight great Cappie Pondexter's jersey at halftime.

KNIGHT NOTES:
- Desiree Keeling led RU in scoring for the first time in her career while it was KK Sander's second time leading the Scarlet Knights in scoring in her career.
- Keeling also led Rutgers in rebounding for the second time this season and second time in her career.
- The Scarlet Knights shot 90 percent from the free line led by KK Sanders going 4-of-4. It was RU's best effort from the stripe since going 8-of-8 against Northwestern on Feb. 10, 2016.
- Alex Alfano returned to the court to make her first appearance of the 2016-17 season after missing the first four games with injury.
