The Rutgers University Dance Team is composed of talented dancers who come from a variety of dance backgrounds, including jazz, hip-hop, pom, and contemporary. Like student-athletes, these dancers represent a wide range of academic majors and minors. The team competes at the highest level, participating in the D1A Pom and Jazz Divisions at the UDA College Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Florida.
As dancers for Rutgers University, the Scarlet Knights Dance Team performs at many athletic and community events. In addition to performing at football games and men's and women's basketball games, they often make appearances on local and national television broadcasts (such as ESPN, B1G Networks, etc.) and participate in community and philanthropic events.
Each week, team members dedicate up to 20 hours to practices, performances, strength training, special appearances, and competitions. Like all student-athletes at Rutgers, members of the dance team are required to maintain high academic standards while managing their commitments on and off the field. All dancers are expected to be versatile performers who can excel in multiple dance styles, embody the spirit of Rutgers University, and represent the values of a collegiate dancer.
