Rutgers Invitational Schedule
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's & women's track programs will welcome the alumni "Back to the Banks" when the Scarlet Knights host Rider, Lafayette and Monmouth in the annual Rutgers Invitational set for January 6-7 at the Busch Bubble.
Men's track and field returns two Big Ten Champions and three NCAA Outdoor Championship participants from last season, including sophomore Izaiah Brown. Brown secured both Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor titles in the 400m during his rookie campaign and collected school records in the indoor 400m (45.62) and outdoor 400m (45.27). For his efforts at the conference indoor championships, Brown was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Track Athlete of the Championships. Junior Christopher Mirabelli finished as an Honorable Mention All-American and Big Ten Outdoor Champion in the javelin, while senior Jermaine Griffith earned Second Team All-America designation in Eugene, Oregon with a ninth-place time of 45.81 in the 400m.
Women's track and field returns six All-East recipients, including the school record holder in the high jump, as well as three NCAA Regional qualifiers. Sophomore Rhonda Rogombe reset the Scarlet Knight benchmark in the high jump at last year's Rutgers Invitational. In her first collegiate competition, she cleared 1.80m (5' 10 3/4") to best the 15-year old record. Junior Bria Saunders was an All-East performer and runner-up in the 200m (23.86) at the Indoor ECAC Championships and was a NCAA Regional qualifier in the 200m along with graduate student Alayna Famble and sophomore Phyllis Gordon in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Gordon also joined seniors Ellen Miller and Sarah Robbie in capturing All-East accolades with the distance medley relay team and was a runner-up in the 400m at the Indoor Metropolitan Championships.
All former track & field alumni are invited to join the coaching staffs and reconnected with teammates on January 7 at the conclusion of day two of the Rutgers Invitational for an alumni gathering at the Brown Family Recruiting Pavilion at High Point Solutions Stadium. Cost is $25 per person and includes food and two (2) drink tickets.
