EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Rutgers tennis team dropped its Big Ten Conference match to Maryland Sunday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club, losing to the Terrapins, 7-0.

The Scarlet Knights, who were riding a three-match winning streak before its matchup with UMD, fell to 4-3 overall this season.

Maryland started strong in doubles play, sweeping the doubles point with a trio of 6-4 victories. Previously, RU captured the doubles point in five of its first six matches to start the spring campaign.

In singles action, The Terrapins managed to secure all six matches to preserve their win. Three Scarlet Knights pushed their matches to three sets, including senior Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) in the No. 1 singles position. After falling behind, 6-4, in the first set to Maryland's Arnelle Sullivan, Li won the second set, 6-4. Sullivan would rally back with a 10-7 third-set victory to secure the win.

Junior Ksenija Tihomirova (Riga, Latvia) and senior Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) also took their opponents to a third-set tiebreaker.

Rutgers continues its homestand on Friday, March 4, when the Scarlet Knights host Big Ten foe Northwestern at the EBRC. The match is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.
