PISCATAWAY, N.J. - It is with great sadness the Rutgers women's basketball program announces the passing of Thelma Stoner, mother of head coach C. Vivian Stringer. Assistant coach Timothy Eatman will again take over head coaching duties when the Scarlet Knights travel to Minnesota and Penn State this week.
"I would like to thank the many friends, fans and members of the Rutgers Athletics community who have reached out with sympathy and support during these past difficult weeks," said Stringer. "The members of this Rutgers team and staff have been incredible sources of strength and encouragement throughout my mother's illness. While it is difficult to leave my basketball family again, I know that these ladies are up to challenges that await them on the court and that my coaching staff - Timothy Eatman, Kelley Gibson and Ervin Monier - are well prepared to guide the team in my absence."
Coach Eatman will take over as acting head coach for the second time this season. Eatman also served as the head coach for the Scarlet Knights' contest at Nebraska on Jan. 16.
