WBB Hosts Georgetown in WNIT First Round

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's basketball team will host Georgetown at the RAC on Thursday, March 17 in the first round of the WNIT. Game time and ticket information will be released on Tuesday.
The Scarlet Knights, one of six teams from the Big Ten to be featured in the 64-team field, enter the tournament at 18-14 overall. Rutgers upset seventh-seeded Nebraska in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament before falling to second-seeded Ohio State in the quarterfinals.
RU is led by Second Team All-Big Ten honorees Kahleah Copper (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.). Scaife, who used a coast-to-coast layup to help the Scarlet Knights to the 2014 WNIT title in a 56-54 victory over UTEP, leads Rutgers at 17.6 points per game. Copper, the 2014 WNIT MVP, is adding in 17.5 points per game along with a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per game.
Rutgers also features Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Defensive Team honoree Rachel Hollivay (Columbus, Miss.). Hollivay is averaging 7.3 points per game and is the Scarlet Knights' all-time leading shot blocker with 329 career blocks. Her 109 blocks on the 2015-16 season currently rank her fourth nationally.
The Scarlet Knights are making their second WNIT appearance. Rutgers won the 2014 title in its only other appearance in the postseason tournament.
Georgetown comes to the RAC with a 16-13 overall record and 9-9 mark in the Big East. The Hoyas fell to eventual tournament champion, St. John's, in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament. Georgetown is led by Dionna White at 14.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game and is closely followed by Dorothy Adomako at 14.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Both Hoyas were Second Team All-Big East selections.
The winner of Thursday's matchup will advance to meet the winner of VCU-Virginia in the second round.
First round WNIT tips off Wednesday, March 16 through Friday, March 18. Second round games will run March 19-22, Round three takes place March 23-25, quarterfinals are March 26-28, and semifinals will be played March 30-31. The championship game will be played Saturday, April 2 and will be televised live and in HD on CBS Sports Network at 3 p.m. ET. All games are hosted by participating schools.
